Best way is to use mum. Foals are very, very curious; and you don't want to scare them. Catch mum, brush mum, just hang around with mum, getting the foal used to you just being there, don't try and force yourself on the foal and the foal will get confident and start approaching you. No need to rush, this will just make it take longer. When the foal sees that mum is comfortable around you, the foal will learn that humans are ok.
