yea i love riding in them theres no metal bit in there mouth :P

did you end up getting a side pull or a cross over?

Sidepull, but 'cos I'm nifty (and poor) I just used the bridle he cam with  - it had a drop noseband so I took the bit off and attatched the reins to the noseband rings and it was just like a sidepull :D
'cos I thought, there's no point in buying one when I'm selling him and it won't fit my next horse lol.

Sophie, you wanted an update right?
Rode him bitless for the first time the other day and he was GREAT! worked in a nice frame, salivated, etc. The good part was he wasn't tensing his jaw up a bit like he sometimes does because it encouraged him to relax his face :)
but he's for sale now :(

Side pull. I hate the cross under ones as on a horse with a fat/big head, it can be quite tight, you can loosen it but they arent very tidy anyway.
Go sidepull :)

If you can get one to trial first and see which your horse prefers would be best. Some horses love them, some hate them. I ride my horse in a rope halter (and a bridle and bit at times) and he hated the bitless bridles. hes a really nice horse and easy going, but absolutely threw his toys out the cot at the bitless bridle!
Whatever one you buy, make sure it has good fittings on it (like the rings etc that reins attach to etc) as some are made from poor quality. I sent my one back to the maker and told them I wanted better quality fittings, he put marine fittings on in the end, they looked soo much better.

So I've decided to try using a bitless bridle, which I am totally new to...
What type would you recommend I use - a cross under type or a side pull, for a horse who is quite forward moving and strong?
Thanks :)

Also, any trademe links to particularly good ones? Preferably not rope ones, under $70..
:)
