Twiggles RR Governer (7782) | a forward jumping stride is 12 foot so thats about 4 normal-big steps. Im 5 ft 6 and have reasonable length legs and i just do normal steps and im about right. generally about 3 feet out from the base is takeoff/landing. bounces for hacks are 9 foot, trot poles i do about 6 foot-lengths so slightly less than 6 feet. canter poles just place the first poles then step over it, do your 4 steps and put the next pole just behind where your heel landed after the last step. shorten/lengthen by 1 foot either way to encourage them to lengthen/collect as needed

jody111 RR Vice President (14002) | depends on the size of the horse but as a rule I take one stride as being around 3 foot - (90cms) walk it out on a ruler to get an idea but its a semi decent stride... then I do 2 people strides for landing bit, 4 people strides for each horse stride and then 2 people strides for take off
so if I wanted to do a 2 stride jump I would do 2 for landing 8 in the middle strides then 2 for take off (so 12 strides in total)
Hope that made sense
If the jumps are small I shorten the take off and landing to 1/1.5 strides (eg 60cms down) but you will learn to work out the ponies strides
If Im doing a trot exercise with poles in front - I go pole - 3 strides - jump 3 strides - Pole (Good exercise that teaches you to wait and the horse to jump in a good bascule

samuel_rox RR Addict (3462) | I am wanting to set up some grids for a friend.
How do you space them out? how would you?
just to get the right striding, do you do it in pinsteps? if so how many pinsteps inbetween jumps etc.
any info will help
