You are all saying they are built down hill. Yes the most often are, but that can really use their hind end when trained right, i mean look at the size of there hind quarters! and the sliding stops they preform rquire all the weight on the back end. |
oh no one disagrees that they don't have power, or cant use themselves - they are probably one of the best put together breeds for what they do, but when it comes to english discliplines that require collection, jumping etc its much harder if the horse is downhill. Not to say they CANT do it, just that its alot harder on them.

I love QHs. Nothing wrong with them. My first pony was a QH/Welsh Mountain pony, ex GP show jumping pony. She was agile as anything, even at a really old age! I now ride her foal (who's now 9 so not really a foal haha) and she also has the agility of her mother, but she's only a quarter QH. |
The crosses do sound awsome. I can just imagen how cute a QH X Welshie would be! nawwwhhh

Dantes Dream RR Addict (4822) | Indy's a QHx and I was told shed make a good park hack not that Im gonna be showing her other than pleasure. I am planning on doing dressage with her later on. She has really nice paces when shes trotting round the paddock etc which I am hoping will continue under saddle. I don't see anything wrong with them. Ive heard of a couple of QHx that were great SJers so they can't be too bad.

There is nothing wrong with QHs - they are BRILLIANT stock working horses, there speed and agility is nothing short of amazing. HOWEVER - as has been previously said they are built very downhill which means they struggle at english disciplines like dressage & jumping. I know alot of QH that aren't good examples of the breed (confirmation wise) but have other desired characteristics such as the temprament, trainability etc and they are xed with tbs to produce sport horses. I personally haven't seen a super example of that cross yet, but I'm sure with time it will happen. |
completely agree with this

S A R A H H :] RR Governer (9398) | Our pony has a teeny bit of QH in her from her mothers side- she is the speediest in jump offs, she doesnt go very fast at all but she can spin on a dime! Like her cross is just enough to give her that attribute but not all the down hill or anything.

MillyJoey RR Vice President (12472) | Joey is QHxTB. He is epic, although he is very slightly downhill, he does super dressage, and if he didn't have queer showjumping issues he would be able to do open+ eventing easy, as he is super scopey etc

This mostly from what I've heard. They're just more suitable for western and stock work than english. They're very intelligent and usually have a good eye and mentality for working with stock, so I guess why take them out of their most suited discipline? I've known/ridden some VERY nice QH crossbredds though

Either way I think they rock but another friend HATES them!?!
So what on earth is wrong with them?
