Graceious RR Citizen (978) | Thats really interesting. It makes me wonder why some people bother sometimes. And yes we have alot of those problems too. My mum ( who im really proud of) who is not horsey in the slightest has stepd up tp be th secretary of our branch which is cool. so maybe all we need is a few more supportive parents to step up and a positive vibe again

S A R A H H :] RR Vice President (10013) | PC is definitely a lot better than it was a few years ago! Still wouldnt say I loved it but thats just all the politics/bitchiness that goes on. Some ruin it for everyone.

Evelyn RR Governer (6426) | Pony Club is not just about Certificates - it's about enjoying your pony and learning more and more about how to ride well and to look after your pony well.
What most people refer to as certificate cards are in fact RECORD CARDS - they record what you have studied, when you have studied each subject and eventually whether you have learnt and practised the subjects to a prescribed level - the level of the record card you've been working on - you don't have to take any certificate but if you've done all the work why not just do it - looks good in your CV.
Pony Club IS fun - it is how you enterprit what is fun - because there are many different people within each club the program each rally has to cater for everyone - you may love jumping and loathe dressage, apart from the fact that the dressage will improve your jumping no end there are some riders who are passionate about dressage and loathe jumping!
Go to club with the attitude that I will bust my gut to improve from how I rode last time - I owe it to my pony to learn all I can so that I can ride him well and look after him well.

Because I for one live in a really small area and we are at risk of not having PC at all next year because we dont have an instructor.
Maybe not making it sooo about certificates and trying to make it less political?? (if that is even possible at all!!!)
Just a thought |
Haha goodluck! though i very much doubt its possible! which is sad really cause the fun needs to be brought back into ponyclubs!

S A R A H H :] RR Vice President (10013) | I go to most rallies, Ive missed one this season because me and my friend had our horses up at our instructors place and the only time we could go riding was when rally was on But Ive been to rallies even when Diggers been lame, Ive gone on foot or Ive organised to take another horse. My mum was president for the last 3yrs and has always been on the comittee. Its only just this year someone has stepped up to be president coz mum was sick of it. For events its always the same people that help and the same that dont bother to turn up. Emails get sent out, notes written on the black board.. Funny how many dont check their emails or read the blackboard Me and my friend always decorate the jumps to make it look nice etc. But seriously, if anyone else from pc's horse is lame, they dont bother to turn up. So theres a new rule- you HAVE to do 70% of pc rallies to be a member (grazer or non grazer) and I know at papatoe pc you pay like a bond or something and you only get it back if you do a certain amount of hours working b type thing a season

Lollie RR Vice President (26559) | When I was at PC I went to like maybe 4-5 rallies? Or less? mounted. But mum was treasurer so we went along and helped out all the time, went to working bs and stuff, it was fun Our PC didn't really have the bitchy thing going on though so was cool as.

Timtamkiwi RR Governer (9160) | ive been in pony club 5 years... 2nd year my mum was a committee member, 3rd year she was secratery, 4th year she was secratery AND treasure and then this year she was treasure and next year she will be treasure again. NO ONE in our club wants to step up into the committee! this last AGM we had to practically con parents into stepping up! thats sad! every winter we do fundrasing for our club which means we cater for ALL of the winter series at the WEC and we cater at the two horse trials held at the WEC. every year for the past 3 years its been the same parents helping out at them. other parents dont want to help out, but then complain when we arent getting better instuctors in and bla bla bla. we dont have a head intstuctor this coming season, so bascially its going to be down to the parents to organise the rallys now(unless someone comes forward to wanting to be it) GAAAAAAH sorry rant over

Evelyn RR Governer (6426) | Problem for many clubs is that many parents can't be bothered to help - they want everything but the moment 'working B' is mentioned they are all too busy, but are always free to come along to the events the hard workers have organised. Common responses when asked to help - can't too busy! My child doesn't do eventing she's too young! I want to watch my child ride! We don't showjump, dressage, games etc!
In general people should complain less, be pro active if they want change and get off their butts and help. Many of the kids are rude and disruptive when being taught so put off the instructors. It doesn't hurt anyone to behave for a few hours during rally!
Last night I went to Area AGM meeting and the same faces were there as always, it's the same for Club and branch level the same kind people are there putting all their time, effort & often money into planning and organising the pony club calender. Where are the rest of the parents - at home grizzling with their kids that pony club doesn't do this, doesn't do that! It would if there were more people willing to put their time forward.
Please note I have no children - yet I'm on Branch, Club and area committee, am an examiner, coach and help out at almost all our branch and club activities. This year I will be organising area games as well as Gold Cup.
So all of you look at yourselves first before trying to 'improve' pony club
End of rant.

you think your pc's got it hard! next season we may not have a president, secratery(sp?), treasure(sp?), head instructor or the required 4 commitee members!! so basically NO commitee and we are in a area with heaps of people... sucks that people dont want to get involved in clubs anymore. they just want the ablitiy to be able to go then leave straight away afterwards without helping |
Exactly, seems like that's happening a lot around the clubs - committee members all quitting because they've had enough of doing all the work with no help (I don't blame them)
