hey, sorry this is kinda a dumb questions.... but with the ridges... what happens if the horse rolls? will it get sqaushed, or is it hard enough to maintain shape or will it like dig into them?

its a mouldable rubber, it gives with pressure but will spring back into its normal shape after the horse gets up again

basically the horse gets a bit of a massage when they roll :P

haha thanks :D

Hear! Hear! I always cringe when I hear people saying they have checked under their horse's rugs and they feel "toasty warm"...poor things. At least when I'm feeling too hot I have the ability to take a layer off.

I'd consider my horses "toasty warm" when they're *just* a nice temperature (not actually warm at all - just not cold) coz that's what they should be, so I guess it depends on your definition of "toasty warm" :P

lol your definition is correct :)
im meaning when you put your hand under the cover and its feeling really really warm

Yea I know what you mean, so many people stick their hands under my horses rugs and go ":O THEY'RE SO COLD, put another rug on!" ah no, they're just not on the brink of sweating like your horse ;) Drives me INSANE.
This winter I had to have Ghost in a winter rug AND a doona to get her *just* at that "normal" body temp, and she wasn't even clipped :(

when you place your hand under the cover (any cover) the horse should feel like it is a neutral temperature
if the horse feels toasty warm then it is TOO HOT
almost everybody in nz over rugs their horses

I'm keen to get one for winter for Thom. I'm keeping him unrugged, and only  chucking his rainsheet on when its yucky this summer, as he isnt competing and I'd rather him be uncovered than to hot?

I don't know about him particularly, but I know that Angel being a dark horse is much cooler in a lightweight mesh sheet than nakey as they attract the heat being dark :) Unless she has HEAPS of shade from trees all day she needs a rug to stay cooler :)

whats the diference to a normal cover?

You just use the one year round :) - as in you just have the one rug for the entire year.
I believe it has strategically placed ridges in it to hold it off the horses back, so their coat is allowed to stand up and lie flat as it would naturally so they regulate their own body heat.

Pretty good as far as covers go, it keeps him dry underneath, he hasn't been ridden for a while and is starting to get a bit of a dip in front of the withers but i don't know if that's from being out of work or wearing a cover but he hasn't worn one for a couple of years. It does come with a neck rug but the manufacturers only made it cause people were asking for one, as it ruins the air flow idea.

Here are some pics of my boy in his new cover-even though it's pretty damn dirty. I know some of you were/are thinking of buying one so if you want to you can ask me questions.
