Evolve is ideal for young growing horses especially if you're trying to avoid high grain content, it has all the necessary goodies to get the extra weight.

Lite-Brew on its own is perfect for maintaining weight in spelling horses rather than gaining it. It's non-grain. For an extra weight gain you can however add Equi-Jewel to it. While the Equi Jewel seems expensive it's only a supplement so will last awhile and is suitable as an additive to a number of NRM feeds.

If your boy has a bit of temperament or/and tends to heat up on grain go for Lite-Brew with an extra Equi Jewel if you'll see no condition improvement with Lite-Brew alone

Otherwise if he's generally calm and ok with some grain, Evolve is your best bet.

thanks admin - we chucked him on evolve as he is still needing to gain more weight and is only 3 so has some growing to do.
hard to tell if he is gaining weight yet cos its too damn wet to take covers off and have a good look :'(

i won't use low gi as i've used it quite a few different horses now and none of them picked up at all in any way

I'd go evolve, I never found litebrew very fattening.

Evolve sounds good, and in the latest H&P nutrition part theres a question about fattening skinny horses and she suggest a broodmare mix as it has more nutrients/vitamins etc :)

Low gi here (Ironically I do have success with it for weight - yet I didnt notice the advance to be fattening - so indiv horses I guess)

would def through some oil in too

However - you do have to feed alot of Low gi so it may not be the most cost effective choice

Yea I found Low GI fattening too. Not feeding anywhere near the recommended daily amount.

I love assett and have fed it to a few horses in the past.
Mixed with some barley he should rocket away :)

Or you could try lite brew.

He can have some grain - I just can't feed huge amounts of it.
I thought of Low GI but it doesn't do anything weight wise.  I had considered Evolve though :)

Low GI has Equijewell in it.  I never had any luck with either for weight gain.

Lite brew is grain free, but isn't really aimed at weight gain.  Tho could work with oil ect (like what Bilbo said in her second paragraph :D)

Indy was on Low GI for a while and she was fine on it, didn't make her hypo or anything. It has no grain in it. :)

None of the breeding feeds are grain free, but I'd probably try either Asset (which doesn't have pollard in it), or Evolve.

Haven't used either of them personally, but a mate did feed Evolve to her old as the hills retired horse over winter and he did fairly well on it.
