Yea, I have to agree with that. I've found calmers fine for clipping and that sort of thing but not a lot else. As long as they've not deficient in magnesium or b vitamins they should be sweet, and if they're not it's more of a... not necesarily schooling, maybe conditioning thing? Like just getting them used to it and finding out what keeps them happy, as in having a small hard feed or having a friend or some sort of comfort? Like a friend uses clicker training to stop her horse from freaking in new situations

Feet RR Addict (3348) | Tryptophan is also in Hanleys Formula...which is made up of amino acids (of which tryptophan is one...so definitely not swabbable.
It really is a case of trial and error.
Some people swear by "Relax" which is made up of mag, Bvits and tryptophan (did nothing for my boy)
Valerian works in a lot of cases (my guy went absolutely nutty balistic on it)
The James Hart products are very good, and I 'think' I had some kind of result using "Co-operate"....but he still found it hard to cope in some situations.
I've also tried Sedazine, but not sure that made much difference either.
Also, look at what you are feeding...some horses react to grass which increases their reactivity, or lucerne, or too much concentrate.
Another (vet only) is rakelin, which is VERY good....I have used it many years ago on a horse that totally lost the plot in a certain situation. It is an intramuscular injection, and once in their system, essentially takes away the stress and anxiety. I do recall one vet saying to me that it ought to be used more often for some types of training (not sure if I agree or not), but it definitely works!
With my guy we are just trying to get him out and about more, so that he can learn to deal with his insecurities. He is definitely improving...and I really do wish there were a 'magic' drug, but I suspect it is simply time, and training (and a big dash of patience)

Yup, that's it. Pretty sure it's not swabbable (it's not on the FEI database, anyway) ... tryptophan is fine, and it doesn't have valerian in it. |
thanks )

Super calm (tryptophan) works really, really well. There's a powder for everyday use and a paste for on the day. Paste takes about 4 hours to kick in (which is the time frame they give, and from what I've seen). |
Where can i buy this and how much is it?? my boy needs some help, as he stresses when travelling |
I know AMS stocks it, tho I can't remember the price. Bluedude used it on her guy at his first few outings and it was really amazing to watch ... he went from spazing to really chilled right around the 4 hour point. |

| Mag will only work if he actually deficient (which isn't as likely if it's an away from home type thing).
