okay guys I did EVERYTHING below (not all at once lol), and I am so stoked - his legs are almost scab free, the heat has gone down and the swelling too. Pasternoit ROCKS, it stays on despite the swamp paddocks. I am so happy! So thanks for everyone's advice |
Fantastic! Pasternoint has been my best friend since Goose got mudfever! Most amazing stuff

Lollie RR Vice President (26563) | Pasternoint is just the bees knees, I seriously put it on Ghost like TWICE and she was sweet after that, and her mud fever was CHRONIC. I didn't pick or rub or anything though, just put a thick layer on and left it to do it's thing. I put it about an inch around the area too to get all the nasties!

crystal=] RR Vice President (26774) | theres this clear liquid gel type lotion you can get from the vets (pretty sure its just called mudfever lotion - comes in a brown bottle with white screw lid) which gets quite hot when you put it on, it worked so well on charm! you only needed like a 50cent piece size max and just stroke it down the leg (no need to rub it in or anything) and it just acts as a barrier against the mudfever

hey that sounds really good. Thanks so much - I was worried about it!

Emmar RR Addict (1608) | I am sure this has been answered before, but my boy has SHOCKING mudfever on all four lower legs at the moment. Today he even had a bit of heat in his off fore which was making him a bit sore, poor man. However, I am not sure whether I should pick the scabs off or not? I hose his legs, then wash them with a warm vetadine wash, rinse and dry thoroughly with a towel. If I rub the scabs semi-vigorously some come off, but not many. Should I pick the scabs off on his pasterns or is that just opening them up to infection? Should I put the mud fever cream on top of the scabs or is that pointless? He is now in a small flat non-muddy paddock til I can sort it out. Sorry for the novel
