It was indeed :(  Bru took about 30 minutes to get on, which was bad enough, but after 3 hours we still couldnt get my friends mare on.  Later on we tried again and after about another hour she got on using the below method.  We have been practicing a lot so we should be okay for the dressage day!

sorry thought you meant the ribbon day :P

Haha I did you got it right :)

ditto about the going back and forward. also using a cattle stick on his bum where the bar would go when he's standing there untill we gets used to it. take a lot of time and be patient but decisive and confident with what you want.

Start with walking him to the ramp and let him put a foot on then push him back about 5 steps, walk him forward and get him to walk futher up the ramp, then push him backwards another 5 steps, then put him right on the float, push him back off and then ask him to walk back on, and he should learn that its a good thing to be in there. Thats how ive got my boy to float.

But it doesnt work for every horse.

This is how we use to get our horses on to but it doesnt seem to work for him

Ditto this.  We spent an entire day loading 2 horses and this was the only approach that worked for both of them.  Eventually they get so bored of walking forward and back that when they are allowed to go on and stay on they do!

My new boy murray is having difficulty floating.  The first time we took him out it took us a couple of tries to get him on our float and then we fussed around at coatsville pc and when we went to go home we couldnt get him on!! We spent 2 1/2 hrs trying until a friend took him home on their double which he was fine in.  He didnt have any problems travelling to coatsville that could have made him not want to go on.  We hav been doing float training ever since but its not that he wont go on he will stand there but its as soon as we move to bar he freaks out and rockets out. We have never had horse that wouldnt go on our angle loader!! We have tried whips, ropes, putting another horse on, feeding him in there, but does anyone have any tips to get him on and to stay on???
