Kelsbells Junior Jockey (27) | Forgot to mention that the 2 year old is currently at my parents place & needs to come home to my place (leaving his gelding paddock mate)... I don't want to put him in with the younger colt as I want an older horse to keep him in his place as he matures...

Kelsbells Junior Jockey (27) | thanks Loopy Lou - I've had mixed feedback on this one - I have an older breeding stallion who is very good & currently paddocked with a miniture stallion - they are best of mates (and there are mares just metres away)... however I also have a 2 year old colt (not serving and currently paddocked with geldings) and a weanling colt (who was sired by the breeding stallion). I don't want any of my boys to be alone as they are all much happier with company - I tried to put the stallion in with his girls but they gave him a hard time so it would be great if I could put the boys in together to hang out in a bachelor herd instead (which is a natural way for boys to hang out in the wild) but like you I'm leaning towards caution and not too keen to put the 2 year old in with the stallion just in case they get too hormonal & fight... anyone else have any opinions on this one?

Loopy Lou Super Jockey (182) | I think it depends on the stallion. I have grazed colts together but once they start serving mares I separate them from other colts/geldings.
We have a clydesdale stallion who can be grazed with other male horses however our older stationbred boy is very territorial and I would not graze him with another male horse esp. if mares were around. I have not needed to try him with geldings as he nearly always has company and on the odd times where he needs to be alone, he has not been worried by it.
I also have a two year old colt who will possibly run with geldings over the winter depending on how I decide to paddock the horses. He has served a mare and will serve one more prior to the end of the season but he is not yet exhibiting very colty/territorial behaviour and is not at all threatened by the other horses.
To be honest however I think that for safetys sake you are best not paddocking older colts/stallions together or with geldings once they become sexually mature as it is just opening up the potential for trouble and is not worth the risk. But, this is JMO.

Kelsbells Junior Jockey (27) | Hi again - I was wondering if anyone had any experience of grazing breeding stallions with colts or other stallions? Apparently it can be done - I'd like to hear your views & experiences please - thanks
