You need to measure her accurately as i think that she must be 15.3hh or Bigger to make a riding horse. Its quite hard to tell from the photo as it really doesnt give a good idea of how she goes. If you are just doing ribbon days not A and P shows then you will just be in the hack ring.

rider1803 RR Citizen (880) | A good idea might be to attend a local A and P show early in the season without your horse to see what you will up against and what will be expected in the work outs, this way when you enter you will be a bit more prepared. Also check out the pictures in Horse and Pony from Horse of the Year to see what they winners looked like and that will give you something to aim towards. Showing is very competitive at A and P level and there are a lot of intricacies to be picked up, however it can be very rewarding. Good luck!

The chestnut would be in the saddle hunter - if the show you are at offers a height distinction he will be in the smaller division obviously or heavy weight hunter if they offer that. By height definition the bay is a park hack but he might not be refined enough (no offence intended but not every horse is meant for the the show ring) both of the above apply to A&P shows, if you mean ribbon days then just hack for both. |
When you say refined, what does that mean? I'll take no offence lol |
Park Hacks are meant to be very very pretty. Quite dainty and flash. Traditionally they were the horses that were ridden by the ladies basically to show off. The bay is probably a bit solid and plain to be successful in the park hack ring at A&P level.
The chestnut could possibly go in the cob ring (have never shown in here before so others may know better) but otherwise he would be a saddle hunter. |
Okay cool thanks. Yeeh i'm new to showing and looks like I wont be jumping much and I dislike dressage so I thought I might get into showing. The bay is quite pretty and dainty, the photo really doesnt do any good for her. And she is working in a beautiful frame and on the bit now. I will start off in just ribbon days so I dont think it will really matter too much. Thanks
